"This location will be closed for the holiday on Easter Monday." That's the sign I read while out shopping with the husband last week.
"What the heck is Easter Monday?" I asked.
"The Monday after Easter?"
Well, duh.
I thought he'd know more about it 'cause he's lived in more parts of the country than I have.
It turns out, a lot of people get the day off... for a four day weekend! (See "Good Friday".) Kids are out of school.
Weird.
I asked my sister-in-law up north (a devoted Roman Catholic) if she'd ever heard of it.
"Nope. But thank God these kids don't get ANOTHER day off school!"
(She's got three, they're beautiful, she's a stay-at-home mom. Beauty wears thin after a while I guess.)
The Wikipedia entry on Easter Monday also references Dyngus Day.
Quick. Somebody alert Beavis and Butthead.
So... unfortunately... Easter Monday was the earliest I could get my driver's license (long story involving a long lost social security card) and since this was a holiday for many, many people, it took way too long and the local DMV was way understaffed.
But, it's done.
Next time I'll know.
