Knee Deep in Remorse

Jeez-- it's been so long since I updated. I feel guilty.
There's not been a lot to write about however, the Partner in Crime and I have been staying pretty close to home (trying to save our pennies, you know) and there's not been a lot to write about.
Except for The Storm. It was quite the ripper. Make no mistake, both the PIC and I enjoy a good storm-- call it Mother Nature having a fit or what will you, but it was quite entertaining. We even sat out on the porch for a good portion of the festivities-- that is until the wind started blowing the rain horizontal and we had to move it indoors. The cats were both freaked out. So much so that the one who lives outdoors most of the time even deigned to join us in the house for most of it. We lost power for about eight hours-- prompting a quick refresher course in how to set the alarm clocks on our phones just in case electricity hadn't come back my morning.
The damage from said storm was extensive. A tree got knocked down just two houses away from our home:

fortunately there was no damage.

Quite a different scene just two streets away:

where a big mofo of a tree came down from the slope of a lawn, brought down power lines, and landed on top of not one but two cars. By the time we arrived on the scene, some genius was trying to drive one of the cars out from underneath this monstrosity. His friends eventually were able to talk him out of it by pointing out that every time he put the vehicle in gear the tree above him would actually move. A couple of bystanders (including ourselves) actually took the time to wonder about the possibility of electrocution. A concept which apparently never occurred to our intrepid driver.
A block in the other direction, another house sustained at least minor roof damage:

in fact, there was still a blue tarp over a section of the roof when I drove by the other day. Bummer.

We just had another storm. Good winds, lotsa rain, and big cracks of thunder. The power flickered once or twice but nothing nearly as dramatic as 10 days ago. Still, it was fun.
