So then I hit up my old employer (they've got a branch down here) and I'm working part-time for them until something better comes along. There are a couple of good prospects, so I'm not giving up hope.
In the meantime, He Who Keeps Me Warm at Night and I made a road trip to see his daughter in Georgia*. We met her new husband and his 10-month-old grandson. Along the way, we stopped to get gas...

... tell me... who's genius idea was it to put a fireworks warehouse right next to a gas station?
Anyway... the grandson is beautiful...

Upon our return, we made our first purchase as a couple...

... romantic, I know. But the lawn really needed it. And HWKMWAN is really good about mowing. I (fortunately) am allergic to grass. Seriously. My face blows up. Just ask my mother-- she's seen it.
We promptly put the mower away and took a road trip to Pilot Mountain, NC.

Pretty spectacular.
We also went to Mt. Airy -- home of Andy Griffith and the inspiration for Mayberry R.F.D.

They take their Americana very seriously.
Let's see... what else? Ah! We went to see the giant chest of drawers in High Point...

We love crap like that.
That's pretty much it. Like I said, things are looking up on the job front and HWKMWAN is settling into his job nicely. The weather is awesome and our neighbors rock. Mother is coming for a visit next weekend. We both really psyched about that.
*Actually, we went to Alabama. Hey, I'm still at the point where all these southern states are running together. I'll gt them sorted out eventually.
